Film Fridays: "Kwanzaa Videos" Lula Washington Dance Theatre

January 22, 2010 · Posted in dance, film fridays, Parenting, video blogging · Comment

Since it seems like fiction is on the back burner for me this year, join me for a film every Friday — a glimpse into our lives.

I finally uploaded the footage from the Kwanzaa show. The first video collage features the high energy African and Modern dance of Lula’s “Harambee Suite.”

The second video is Mooch in an uplifting gospel tap piece of mine called, “Tell It.”

The final video is Lula’s Youth Dance Ensemble foot stomping in “Taratibu.”

Supplies. Check.

The scene.
Crazy helpers. Check.

Big feet run in the family.

Eating feet does not run in the family.
She enjoyed the bath.

Her sister washed her feet. She better enjoy that while it lasts.

I’m not glowing. My heater is up too high.

I love cloth diapers, and so does Fuss.

Apple Cheeks never leak! They rock.

It was a little cold when she got out. I guess she didn’t notice that we turned up the heat.

It’s time for some professional hairstyling.

Aloe vera gel. Check.

Sleek.

Baba and Fuss.

Everybody look normal at once.

Seriously. Look normal.

Oh never mind.

Dramatic chipmunk face.

Workin’ Wednesdays: "Client: Mooch and Fuss"

January 21, 2010 · Posted in graphic design, Parenting, workin' wednesdays · 2 Comments

Okay. This isn’t a client. It’s my kids. I still need your help deciding on their logo. Everybody knows Mooch. Meet Fuss. We almost decided against the name, because we realized she was only fussing for the first 3 days due to my not actually producing breastmilk. Once fed, she was the best baby.

We later noticed that she would pant really quickly and then fuss as a warning before she’d actually scream at us. We thought about calling her spits, because she really spits up a lot. Really. That name didn’t seem like it would go well when she hits adolescence. *smirk* Then we considered chipmunk, because she does those weird eyes that the dramatic chipmunk on YouTube does. We may still use that one around the house, but it didn’t stick well with Mooch.

Anyway, I’ve pretty much narrowed down the logo, but there are subtle differences between the five. Please choose one, and tell why:

I’ll post the results next Wednesday.

Tuesdays With Mooch: The Pick Up

January 19, 2010 · Posted in Parenting, tuesdays with mooch · Comment

I did something stupid. It had been so long since I’d been able to really hug my Mooch. First, I had the big belly in the way, and then I had a horrible surgical experience. She’s been so understanding. I was finally healing this past week (despite all of the adhesions), all my tape fell off, my scar looks neat and pretty, and I could actually walk around without bending forward a little.

So, I decided I was going to pick her up and give her the best 15 second hug ever. It felt really good. I put her down and thought nothing of it — other than, “Dang, I forgot how heavy she was!”

The next day, I woke up in excruciating pain as though I’d just had surgery the night before. I could barely walk to the restroom. *sigh* The outer incision is fine. The inner one — probably not so much. So, recovery begins again. Before, I left the hospital they said, “Remember not to pick up anything heavier than your child.” Is it my fault that they didn’t specify *which* child they meant?

Dear Hospital Bwana Witch Doctors,

When discharging c-section patients, you really should consider how many children a woman has. The proper phrase should be, “Don’t lift anything heavier than your most recent child.” Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely,

Supa Sista
